Expanding Garage business out to retain its Retailer of the Year Award accolade

The owners of a South Derbyshire firm have spoken of their ‘delight’ after scooping a Burton Mail Business Award.

Hilton Garage fought off stiff competition to pick up the ‘Retailer of the Year’ award at the Burton Mail Business Awards ceremony held at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium. The Derby-based company was recognised by the judges for ‘growing its year-on-year sales that have taken into the top league of large businesses in the area’. They continued ‘the ability of the team, led by Richard Manning, in delivering high-quality cars with the widest choice, available locally’ was a critical factor in the garage’s success story.

With 1,200 cars in stock, the Car Supermarket has low-priced used cars from all of the world’s leading manufacturers; and has developed a reputation built up over the past 40 years and continued its family tradition as a local business. Richard Manning, co-owner at Hilton Garage Supermarket, said: “All our team were delighted with this success; particularly as this year, we understand that the level of entries raised the bar in this category; and across the board for all the awards.

“Entering this award, sponsored by Hardy Digital, provided us with a tailor-made opportunity to tell more people that we are different by stocking the right vehicles, at the most competitive prices, to sell in this area”. Innovation is a key priority for the garage. The launch of their extensive website offering customers the chance to compare available cars online, before visiting the supermarket, has proved to be a major success. “It’s these type of innovations that made the garage stand-out”, pointed out Hardy Digital MD, Nik Hardy.

“Adopting new sales techniques to get closer to customers is one of the key areas that we looked for in all the entries for Retailer of The Year’. “We have discovered that innovative businesses want to enhance their touch points with customers to improve their purchasing experiences. “Those looking to achieve that goal are turning to the latest digital systems. For example, digi posters enable businesses to connect with their customers and provide more information to assist them in reaching their buying decisions.

Looking ahead, the garage closely follows trends in the car market, so that it remains ahead of the game; and so has economical and eco-friendly cars in its large stock of vehicles. With a track record of 70% repeat business, the car supermarket has its fingers perfectly in tune with the pulse of its markets. “With the reduction in oil prices reflected in fuel prices at the pumps and car insurance premiums also falling, these are both having a positive effect on car sales”, continued Richard Manning.

“Providing just the right vehicle for each purchaser is our key aim”, said Hilton Garage, co-owner Richard Manning. “94% of our customers recommend us; and the award is a great way of making sure that we keep at the top of our game”.
